英國人正在瘋狂囤積日用品：從廁紙到大米。
他們是在準備明年三月即將到來的「末日」，屆時英國將正式「脫歐」。這些人將超市一掃而空，儲存食物和水、搜羅日常藥品，把櫥櫃堆得滿到溢出來，在花園裡灑下蔬菜和水果的種子，為房頂鋪上太陽能電池板，準備清潔雨水的過濾器……他們如臨大敵。
這些人被稱作「脫歐末日準備者」(brexit prepper)。

a line from Aeneid on wooden writing-tablet in northern England – right at the edge of the Roman empire.

Roman poet Virgil was born #onthisday in 70 BC. One side of this wooden writing-tablet is inscribed with a line from his poem the Aeneid (shown on the top). It was found in the commanding officer’s residence at Vindolanda, a fort just south of Hadrian’s Wall in northern England – right at the edge of the Roman empire. It suggests that Virgil’s texts could have been readily available and used for writing practice in the region – the other side (bottom) is the draft of a letter. http://ow.ly/PoiX30fQUrt

我超愛看豆豆先生的電影，特別是突槌特派員，已經拍了第三集。前幾天去電影院看，從頭笑到尾，決無冷場。
年輕時我很著迷於英國文化與歷史。事隔數十年，我才瞭解原因。英國人強烈地感到「帝國沒落」，電影與小說總散發著一種落日餘暉的光暈。這種沒落感並非自憐字艾，而是以詼諧、幽默、好笑的方式來呈現。日裔作家「長日將盡」(Remains of the Day)，將這種帝國沒落的黃昏美學闡釋的極深入，而豆豆先生則以逗趣方式嘲笑當代英國科技落後、國力衰微，然後再於結尾呈現出人文老國的優雅。
豆豆先生飾演的特派員名叫Johnny English。這名字取的真直接，電影呈現的就是老派英國人的精神。加上經典的007，以及這幾年的「金牌特務員」，都是好看的英國特務片。
這次突槌特派員第三集，女首相是Emma Thompson演的，她怎麼都不會老？跟當年「長日將盡」電影的長相差不多。首相在國際會議致詞時，自稱為「島嶼國家」，from Empire to island country, 多少的曲折！多少的故事！

Johnny English is a 2003 British spy comedy film directed by Peter Howitt and written by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and William Davies. It is a British-American venture produced by StudioCanal, Working Title Films and Universal Pictures.
Starring Rowan Atkinson, Natalie Imbruglia, Ben Miller and John Malkovich, it is the first installment of the Johnny English film seriesand serves as a parody/homage to the spy genre, mainly the James Bond film series as well as Atkinson's character Mr. Bean.
Released theatrically in the United States on July 18, 2003, the film met with mixed reviews from critics but was commercially successful, having grossed $160 million worldwide against a budget of $40 million.[1] The film was released in the United Kingdom on April 11, 2003 and topped the country's box office for the next three weekends, before being overtaken by X2.[3][4][5]
Due to its commercial success it was followed by two sequels, Johnny English Reborn and Johnny English Strikes Again in 2011 and 2018, respectively.

Latest network iteration will enable much faster mobile data download and upload speeds

The largest mobile network operator in the UK is launching the country’s first 5G (generation) mobile network trial in October, in East London. Users and select businesses in 10 London sites will be provided with beta 5G broadband devices according to mobile company EE, as current phones can’t utilize 5G networks. 
When the fifth generation launches it will enable much faster mobile data download and upload speeds. To date, a new generation mobile network has appeared roughly every 10 years to keep up with growing demand.
“Over the coming few months we’re going to hear many people who are launching or testing 5G networks,” professor of electronic and electrical engineering at UCL, Izzat Darwazeh, told WikiTribune. But “none of these will be a proper 5G network.” 
Three companies have claimed to launch the world’s first 5G network: Qatar’s Ooredoo, Finland’s Elisa and Australia’s Telstra. But “we are still seeing much slower speeds than 5G is expected to deliver,” professor of cyber security at Ulster University, Kevin Curran, told WikiTribune. “These are not 5G networks but rather a 5G implementation of a 4G network.”
There is only one device, produced by Motorola, which can pick up 5G signals in America, according to Matthew Higgins, associate professor of energy and electrical systems at Warwick University.
Most countries are unlikely to launch 5G networks before 2020. “The next big push will probably happen around the 2020 Olympics,” Higgins told WikiTribune.
Marc Allera, chief executive of EE, said 5G will be ready for consumers by June 2019, but a UK rollout of 5G mobile networks isn’t expected until 2020 according to the government’s5G strategy.
