Canterbury Cathedral is part of the Unesco World Heritage site in Kent.
Although the spectacular gothic cathedral, Canterbury, is the best known part of the site, it also includes the ruins of St. Augustine Abby and St. Martin’s, the oldest Christian church in the United Kingdom. All three sites are steeped in history and tell the remarkable story of how Christianity developed in Britain. After the murder of St. Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury from 1162 to 1170 the cathedral became an important pilgrimage site and attracts international pilgrims to this day.
